Amyndeo, a region where mountainous terrain, a continental climate, and a distinctive character come together. At 700 meters above sea level, in the heart of Florina, this unique land is steadily establishing itself among Greece’s top wine-producing regions.
Did you know that Florina is one of the coldest areas in Greece? Winter temperatures can drop to -15°C, while summers remain mild and pleasantly cool.
The difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures can reach up to 15°C, slowing grape ripening and preserving their natural freshness. The surrounding lakes play a crucial role, creating the perfect microclimate for vines to ripen in a balanced and harmonious way.
The vineyard soils, composed of sandy and sandy-clay layers over a limestone subsoil, offer excellent drainage, providing ideal conditions for vine growth. Rainfall during the growing season is not exceeding 160 mm, promoting balanced vegetative growth and natural grape maturation.
These viticultural conditions enhance sugar concentration while maintaining vibrant acidity, giving our wines a bold character and pure, expressive aromas. The energy of this place, its elevation, and the natural beauty of the landscape captivated us from the very first moment, inspiring the creation of Arktos Elevation Vineyards.
The four lakes of the region, Vegoritida, Petron, Cheimaditida, and Zazari, are one of the secret ingredients behind Amyndeo’s distinctive microclimate. Arktos estate vineyards are located just 5 km from Lake Petron, benefiting directly from the lakes’ gentle influence.
Their presence naturally moderates the climate: because water has a high heat capacity, it warms up and cools down much more slowly than land, helping to reduce extreme temperature fluctuations.
They also create ideal humidity levels, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and evenly.. The result? Grapes with balanced sugar and acid concentration, maintaining freshness and structure in the wines.
Amyndeo captivates not only with its altitude but also with its aura of the undiscovered – a place whose full narrative is yet to unfold. Genuine, vibrant, and pulsating with life, it beckons one to explore it step by step, while simultaneously reminding us of the vital need to safeguard its rich biodiversity.
Here, nature takes precedence: lakes reflecting the heavens, mountains merging with the horizon, forests and verdant foliage imparting coolness and vitality. Amidst them, vineyards unfurl gracefully across the landscape, endowing the region with a distinctive rhythm and vigor.
This pristine realm invigorates and inspires, harmoniously blending untamed beauty with the tranquility of an untouched haven. From hiking and mountain biking along picturesque trails to savoring the region’s distinguished wines, Amyndeo offers experiences of lasting resonance – ideal for both winter retreats and summer escapades.
